One of the biggest fears that any one has when joining a gym is what are the other members going to be like

L o c a t i o n

and what is it like to train at? Will I be given any help or will I just be abandoned to do my own thing?

At BasixGym we do things a little differently. Not for us plastic membership cards with your photo on it,

B r o c h u r e (pdf)

we prefer to know our members by name and welcome and work with them everyday.

We will discuss your needs and goals and work towards achieving what you strive for, working with you in every

class and always being on hand to answer any questions you may have.

At BasixGym we don't give you an induction tour of the gym and leave you to it, that would be to simple and would

be of little benefit to you. Every day is like induction day, even after eighteen months our members are still learning.

But don't take our word for what you will experience at BasixGym, below are testimonials from our members.

"I was never really a fan of fitness clubs or gyms having neither the time nor the inclination to sign up for what I thought was more of a ‘social club’ with a little bit of effort involved. That changed in July 2008 when my ultra-fit wife suggested I come along to BasixGym for a couple of trial Crossfit sessions.

After the first three weeks of feeling aches in muscles I didn’t know existed there’s been no looking back. Now, after approx 350 workouts later, I can summarise the experience as:

  • Excellent coaching and tuition.
  • Short and sharp, with each work-out taking between 20 and 30 minutes
  • Major motivation and encouragement from the coaches and co-crossfitters
  • Feeling fitter than I’ve ever been
  • All in all, a great bunch of people from all walks of life.

For me it’s an hour of unpretentious escapism where the only challenge is just to do your best and then realise you’ve done better than you thought you ever could.

The only risk is …… it can be addictive."

"In March 2008 my sister talked me into trying out a "different kind of gym" just to try and feel a wee bit fit and maybe with some luck do something with our "bingo wings". Never for one minute did we think we would actually end up with muscles, which by the way we're extremely proud of, boy have we worked hard to get them!!!!

Since we started my other sister, daughter, niece and friend have also been coming to the gym.

the encouragement we get from the trainers is great and you end up doing workouts that you never thought you'd be able to do. Certainly in my experience, when a couple of gyms many years ago, I never pushed myself to the limit as I was always left to do just what I wanted and sometimes after my pathetic workouts I would head to the pub or chippy. After a workout at Basix you can just about drive home with legs or arms shaking, but you feel great that you did the workout.

BasixGym is the place to be to get results. I'm just about hitting the big 5 0 and thanks to the gym I think this is the fittest I've probably been since my twenties."

"BasixGym: When I first tried this in June I thought it was great. The first few times I went I didn't do the same workout as the others, I worked on the warm-up which is enough to get the heart pumping. After progressing to workouts I feel I have gone from strength to strength.
Because everyone works to their own abilities, I don't feel I am doing any less than the fitter gym members, and the support from other members and the trainers are superb. Would not want to train in any other way."

"Since joining BasixGym Irvine in Oct 2008 my wife and I have watched and felt our fitness levels climb. Initially we found our warm-up challenging, but before long we were doing two warm-up rounds before the workout of the day. We started to see improvements in everyday things like using the stairs in department stores instead of the lifts, reaching to lift things from high shelves, lifting things from the floor etc and many other fitness related improvements, but the real benefit to date was during our Holiday in Sept. this year 2009.

This was a Rail holiday to Bavaria and as such there were a number of instances where our 17kg cases had to be lifted up onto the overhead racks on the different trains, which didn’t pose a problem at all (technique is everything). In our hotel the staircase had 60 steps to our room on the first floor, which were taken a number of times every day. On our various trips to the famous Castles there were steep winding paths to climb (up to ½ mile) before reaching the stairs in the castles themselves, yes there was transport available to the castle sites but we walked up anyway (somewhere between a warm-up and workout). Altitude didn’t have any effect and the temp. was 26/27 deg.

In our view if we hadn’t joined the Irvine BasixGym our holiday would have been a completely different experience –

Thanks to Kevin for getting us to join and to Neil and Ron for “Training & Technique”, it was an effortless and very enjoyable Ruby Anniversary holiday."

"For all of you who think as I did, the “gym is not for me”, or “it never does me any good” let me tell you I went for a trial workout at Basix Gym, in Irvine in April this year and have never looked back since.  I love it!  It is not your traditional style gym where you are left to your own devices to work machines, the class is run by coaches who are fantastic, down to earth and are extremely helpful.  You go at your own pace, although it will be a class workout, and your programme is worked out based on your individual capability, whatever you are comfortable doing, and most importantly what you are capable of doing.  The people who go to the gym really make you feel welcome and you are not a "new comer" for long, it is a real team spirit with everyone supporting you in your workouts.

The workouts are short, however they are intense and although you are tired at the end, you really feel you have had a great workout and feel the benefit from it, I know I have.  Since attending the gym in April this year together with and healthy eating,  I have lost 2 stone and I feel great.

If I can be converted, so can you, you will never look back I promise.  Come on give it a try!!!!    "

CrossFit Scotland @ BasixGym - A Different Experience

"When I walked through the door at BasixGym it was with some apprehension but a sense of "this looks different. No need to worry. Supportive well informed trainers were there every step of the way to guide, demonstrate, motivate and celebrate my personnel efforts and the efforts of all.

My experience of gyms has been an induction and then you are on your own unless you asked for help. At BasixGym I am the fittest I have ever been. I have increased my mobility 90%, my strength by a similar amount and my endurance has improved dramatically, but best of all I have lost 1 stone in weight and toned all those flabby bits.

BasixGym saved me from becoming the "Tin Woman". The trainers motivate and celebrate my every achievement and encourage me to reach my potential. The other members become supportive friends who cheer you on to finish.

To BasixGym. staff and members a huge thank you for being partners in my training journey."

"I've trained in many different gyms over the years' but having trained at BasixGym for just over a year now, I can honestly say I am unlikely to set foot in another 'fitness club' ever again.  Every time I go, it's worth the trip, and with the help and support of the coaches and the other members, you quickly start to feel the benefit of Crossfit training.  It's completely unique and although it won't be to everyone's taste, anyone who is interested in all-round fitness, and who is prepared to work hard and listen to the coaches, should try it.  After a few sessions I'm sure you'll never look back and you will find out what 'kipping' really means!"
